Discussion on Spring Break 09 |
 |
Back in May, Mr. Barbaro had announced to the band students that spring break for 2009 had changed.
Before scheduling the tour, Mr. Barbaro asked several questions
regarding the rumor of a changed spring break and was given the
green light on the current dates. When it was brought to our attention
that Spring Break had then changed, Mr. Barbaro got permission from Mr.
Boynton to keep the tour dates for hotel reservations, transportation
reservations, and restaurant reservations had already been paid for
along with an acceptance date from Disney. Mr. Boynton has given the students permission to miss school on Tuesday, April 14.
Students will then return to school on Wednesday, April 15th. Not too
long ago, before we had "teacher inservice" the day before "Good
Friday", Marching Band students missed school that Thursday to travel
to Florida. Consideration was given to change the tour dates.
However, with reservations already made and the fact that we have a tradition
to march the evening Parade of Easter weekend, we chose to keep the
dates. For those students who go to Florida with the band and then
extend their stay in Florida with their parents....you will now have
the opportunity to go early with your parents and then meet up with the
band on Friday. more details to follow.

Disney's Hollywood Studios
When the Disney Hollywood Studios
opened on May 1, 1989, chairman Michael Eisner declared "Welcome to the
Hollywood that never was and always will be." Evoking the Golden Age of
Hollywood, you are transported back in time from the moment that you
approach the main gates. Art Deco is the prevailing style as you stroll
down Hollywood Boulevard surrounded by sleek chrome trimmed
architecture and neon highlights. As a fitting tribute to the
studios of the past, a water tower is prominently displayed. The
"Earffel Tower" adds the distinctive Disney twist of sporting a pair of
5000 pound Mouse Ears.

Rainforest Cafe
The Rainforest Cafe is part of a national chain of restaurants. There's
a huge saltwater fish tank that's part of the decor. Waterfalls, lush
plantings and sound effects add to the atmosphere. Periodically there's
a "thunderstorm" and the animatronic animals spring to life.
The Magic Mushroom bar is surrounded by whimsical animal shaped barstools. Specialty drinks are featured and there's a bar menu. Adjacent to the restaurant is a large gift shop featuring Rainforest themed merchandise.

Disney's Magic Kingdom
It has often been said that the true essence of Disney magic can be
experienced simply by stepping foot inside the Magic Kingdom. Opened in
1971, the venerable theme park has withstood more than three decades of
changing cultures, a constantly shifting social climate, and an
explosion of technology that has left lesser places outdated and
obsolete. Yet, somehow, the Magic Kingdom continues to remain the
undisputed king of Theme Parks, drawing more yearly visitors than any
other.

Disney's Epcot
Walt Disney envisioned
Epcot as a real working city. As he stated "it will
be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed
but will always be introducing and testing and demonstrating
new materials and systems."
Walt Disney World's Epcot
may not be what he initially proposed, but it has become
a destination that he would be proud of. Featuring a World's
Fair atmosphere, there are pavilions of countries representing
nations from around the globe, as well as attractions featuring
state of the art technology. With diverse entertainment,
a tremendous selection of restaurants and beautiful gardens
all centered around a glistening lagoon, it's a unique park
where you're certain to find something for everyone to enjoy.

Hard Rock Cafe
In a city with so much to see and do, the
main attraction for locals, as well as tourists, is Hard Rock Cafe
Orlando. Located at Universal Studios Orlando in the CityWalk
entertainment complex, Hard Rock Cafe Orlando is the biggest HRC in the
world. With large, statuesque pillars, it stands majestically as a
Roman Coliseum of rock, and boasts more pieces of rock 'n' roll
memorabilia than any other location. The site includes not only a vast,
multi-level cafe, but throw in Hard Rock Live Orlando, a 3,000-person
concert/party venue, and you've got a winner. Come on down when you
wanna rock!

Universal Studios
Islands
of Adventure
is the newer of Universal's two theme parks, and by far it has proven
to be a succesful entry. With an estimated 5.5 Million visitors in 2001
(less than the 7.2 Million estimated to have visited Universal Studios
during the same period), Islands has done it's job in drawing more
visitors to the revamped destination.
In our opinion, Islands is the better of Universal's two theme
parks, offering a greater depth of theming and attractions, and in
general, a much better day of fun. Islands of Adventure is divided into
6 primary areas, all of which circle a lagoon in the center of the
park.
